Delicious Plant-Based Barbecue Recipes to Try

A colorful array of plant-based vegetables, including bell peppers, zucchini, and squash, grilling on a barbecue, perfect for a healthy and nutritious plant-based barbecue feast.

Barbecue season is here, and it’s the perfect time to explore delicious plant-based barbecue recipes. I don’t know about you, but I used to feel awful after a nice barbecue. Not because the food wasn’t good—on the contrary! It was just so meat-heavy that it didn’t leave my body feeling good. By swapping out calorie-loaded meat for nutritious plant-based options, you can enjoy a feast that’s as good for your body as it is for your taste buds. So, let’s dive into some mouth-watering options that go beyond the usual grilled vegetables and bring a new level of excitement to your grill.

Essential Tips for Plant-Based Grilling

Grilling plant-based foods is easy and fun with the right tips. Start by preparing your vegetables and proteins well. Marinate them to get the most flavor out of them. Additionally, invest in essential grilling tools like skewers, grill baskets, and a grill skittle to prevent smaller items or homemade burgers from falling through the grill. Remember to season your food generously to bring out the best flavors.

Top Plant-Based Barbecue Recipes for on the Grill

1. Grilled Portobello Mushrooms

Portobello mushrooms are a fantastic meat substitute for the grill. Their meaty texture and rich flavor make them a favorite, I know they are my favorite!

Ingredients (4 portions)

  • 4 large portobello mushrooms, stemmed
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon low salt soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or fresh garlic, but it burns a bit quicker on the grill)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh of dried oregano
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the marinade by mixing all the ingredients except for the portobello mushrooms. Mix well.
  2. Add the mushrooms and marinade them for 5-10 minutes on both sides.
  3. Brush the warm grill with a bit of oil to prevent sticking, and grill both sides for about 3-4 minutes, or until tender.

2. Grilled Vegetable Skewers

This is a super versatile item on the barbecue. You can add any vegetable you like, and you can either marinate them or not.

Here is a great recipe to follow! You can easily leave out the oil as this will be a healthier option.

3. Grilled Corn on the Cob

This isn’t the most surprising item, but I really do love this! I just love the taste of grilled corn on the cob. And you know it has to be neatly eaten row by row! 😉

4. Grilled Fruit Desserts

Grilled fruits make a delightful and healthy dessert. They caramelize beautifully on the grill. Just writing this is already making me drool! This is a recipe for nectarines, but you can easily replace them with peaches or pineapples, whatever you prefer!

Ingredients

  • 4 nectarines
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cut the nectarines in half and try to remove the pits.
  2. Mix the maple syrup with cinnamon and brush the nectarines with it.
  3. Grill both sides for 2-3 minutes, or until it’s slightly caramelised and soft.

5. Grilled Plant-Based Burgers

A plant-based burger featuring a hearty veggie patty, sliced cucumber, avocado, and vibrant purple sprouts, served in a soft bun on a white plate.

You can’t have a barbecue without a plant-based burger! So here is my own recipe. Make sure to put the on a skittle so that you can easily remove them from the grill.

6. Grilled Stuffed Peppers

Grilled red bell peppers stuffed with a savory plant-based filling, garnished with fresh parsley and served with a lemon half on a white plate.

This recipe takes a little longer to make, but so yummy! Don’t they just also look so beautiful?

Grilling plant-based foods can be as satisfying and delicious as traditional barbecue fare. These plant-based barbecue recipes offer a variety of flavors and textures that everyone will love. So, give them a try and let me know what you think! Enjoy your barbecue!
